I have a Myson Marathon 100B boiler which had been turned off while we were away for a time. Having trouble relighting the boiler as it seems there is no spark for the pilot light.
How can I test the spark electrode to see if it is working?

With that boiler the only way is to remove the burner assembly which I strongly advise against by a diyer.
It may be that there is air in the pilot line so try holding the gas valve button down for a bit longer and then try ignition.
That is a balanced flued model so manual ignition is not possible.
You may have to bite the bullet and call in an engineer.

Is there a gas hob working properly?

I agree a boiler engineer may be needed as is seems there is a small fault.

Those are rarely serious and unlikely to be anything over £100.

Thanks for both of these replies. We actually had it serviced just before we went away and the engineer had problems relighting the pilot and did it with a match in the end!

Have managed to get it alight again, so perhaps the answer is not to turn it off!

The answer is to get it serviced by an engineer who takes pride in his work!

No self respecting engineer would leave a boiler after a service which did not operate, including lighting easily.

He is hardly someone anyone would recommend !

Ideally, I like a boiler to always light on the first spark! But if thats the best that I can get I will accept if it usually lights by the third spark.
