External soil pipe leaking at seal

The Fernco rubber coupler is a solution to many of these type of problems.

Few would consider them unsightly if painted the same colour as the rest of the pipe!

I really dont understand why 90% of plumbers in London DONT bother to paint them and leave them looking like a bodge repair. ( those with limited comprehension of English note the use of the word "looking"! ).

Hi guys, I thought I would document what I did to replace the coupling, in case anyone else has the same problem.

I cut off the existing coupler by cutting through the middle (at the gap in between where the two pipes meet) with a recip saw, then I cut at right angles to create a break in the ring with a hack saw. I was then able to force the two remaining pieces off. Then I was left with this:

At first I thought I wasn't going to be able to get the new coupler on cause there was absolutely no movement in the pipes. I lubricated the 2 pipe ends and then had to remove the Jubilee clips from the coupler so I could make it more maleable. I then put the Jubilee clips on either end of the pipe first and lubricated the coupling. The coupling is really flexible so once I got it over the first pipe lip I was able to work it on. Once on I could then bring the Jubilee clips back over it and tighten them up:

It seems to be holding well, I've had a shower and flushed the toilet and I don't see any leaks, so fingers crossed. I posted in the dec and paint section to see if there's a paint that would work well with it.

Anyway thanks for all your help, I may be back soon though as I've spotted another leak coming an external pipe that runs from my downstairs bathroom sink!
