Hi, looking for advice on replacing an Electric showers.

Our Triton Millennium shower blew up at the weekend. The fault must have been quite severe as it cracked the top of the cover. This is the second Millennium shower we have had in just under ten years and the third triton shower. The original Triton was a diy store purchase and developed a fault within months that meant the shower put out boiling water which burnt my daughter. Triton installed the original Millennium shower FOC, as it had advanced safety features that shut down the outlet valve in the case of a water or electrical failure to prevent boiling water being ejected from the shower. Triton claimed that we had unstable mains pressure. The design was really designed for residential care home use I believe.

This had a lot of minor faults and eventually died. So I replaced it with a mk2 version at a ridiculous cost. Now after five or six years it has also gone the way of the previous one.

Tritons repair quote is uneconomical so a new one is the only option. I'm not going to use Triton this time round so looking for opinions on other brands of electric showers in terms of ease of fitting and reliability. (I did. A quick Google search and Triton and the Millennium shower in particular get a lot of criticism).

A few showers now seem to offer the safety feature to prevent scalding (phased shutdown) and I believe that I still need this, although despite Triton's assertion that the water pressure was the problem there's no other evidence to support this. The shower will be connected directly to the mains and I believe we need a 10 k version.

Sorry for a long post, but I know this will be a hassle to change the shower
so want to make a good choice on the replacement shower.

Any help appreciated.

I don't rate the Millennium at all i prefer the T100E thermostatic care plus or the Safeguard Care for reliability.

If you don't want Triton then Mira is the way to go, although there are better Tritons available. If you want something similar to the Millennium from Mira look at the Advance ATL, if you don't need care approval then you can't go far wrong with a Mira Orbis, which is a 10.8kw thermostatic model that looks good too, and has your phased shutdown feature.

I prefer Mira. Have fitted more of these over the years than other brands. I usually specify Mira, unless the customer has other ideas.

The Mira sport I put in for my brother 9 years ago, has been used daily, and never broken down.

A 10Kw will give as good a flow as electric showers can muster. If your previous shower was lower powered than this, make sure the wiring can handle it.

Mira seems to get great reviews and seems to be the trades preferred brand as well. Will look again at their model range. Plan to fit this weekend as wife and three daughters cannot live with baths alone. Will let people know how it goes.

I've had showers in 3 different properties over the past 30-odd years. All have been Triton T80 showers.

Bombproof, IMHO. I won't buy anything else.

£60 more for the orbis than the sport max. The only difference on the Mira website is that the orbis has a "Thermostatic temperature stability keeps showering safe for all the family" feature.

I'm assuming that this prevents temperature changes due to a cold tap etc being turned on in the house. The millennium 2 was better than the original model in that aspect at least. I don't want to deal with the problem of people winging about the temperature changes so wonder if the orbis is the sensible choice
