Cold Water System Is Rattling The Pipes

Hi all,

We changed the Ballcock & flushing mechanism in the downstairs loo about 2 months ago.

For the last 3-4 weeks, whenever the cold water taps anywhere in the house are switched on, it rattles around the whole house.

If we lift the ballcock mechanism in the downstairs loo, it seems to stop the problem.

Anyone have any ideas why this would start to happen?
It never did it after we first fitted the new stuff in the cistern.

In addition...........

I think it might be a pressure problem.
If we turn the stopcock off, then on 1/8th of a turn, it lets out enough water for taps, but if we turn thr tap on & off straight away, you can hear the Ballcock mechanism creaking in the cistern.

Also, the stopcock is leaking too, so not sure if this is anything to do with it.

We might turn the main supply off outside the house & replace the stopcock.

If we turn the stopcock much higher than 1/8th of a turn, it then starts to make the pipes rattle.

What do you reckon?

Leaking stop tap is unconnected. If it's leaking from the spindle, undo the gland nut, and wind some PTFE in.

Same principle as the rad valve on here -





If the float valve in cistern is bottom-entry, have you adjusted the plastic screw to brace the valve against inside wall of cistern?

In last pic, you can see the water dripping.

Sorry, can't remember off the top of my head the make & model of cistern mechanisms, but will try to find out.

Probably nothing to do with the problem but is your float catching on the overflow pipe? It looks extremely close.
You ought to have fitted something like a Fluidmaster.
