The top pic is normal top hat DIN rail.

Can someone tell me what the bottom type is called?

I need some connectors to fit some existing rail, but I'm not sure what I'm trying to buy!

"G" rail has been around for what seems like decades(probably has)as i was using it in the sixties. Used to be provision on the terminal blocks(still is) for fitting a locking pin, although this seems to have gone out of fashion.

Thanks chaps. I've just been doing a bit of googling, and it seems most connectors will fit either style of rail. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

There are connectors made specifically for G-rail that had like a spring wire on them. But many of the modern connectors will fit it as well.

NO it is NOT the case. There are some connectors that will "fit" both G and Top hat but they have always seemed to be be bigger and bulkier and more expensive than single rail type connectors.

Oh thanks for the info. I'll take one of my normal ones and see if they'll fit, and if not, at least I know what I'm looking for now.

Their proper names symmetrical and asymmetrical.
