RATTLING METAL NOISE FROM CHIMNEY STACK

I have a back boiler BAXI BERMUDA 50/4 during the winds I cannot sleep making a rattling metal noise coming from the chimney stack I guess it is coming from either the liner it might be getting loose where it connects with the flue and cowl any advice?

PS I went to the loft and can confirm the noise is coming from above in the chimney stack.

You could try praying for the >80mph winds to stop?

TBH you could be right, it could be loose, the flaunching on top may need redoing.

But it does sound like a typical flue liner in bad weather...

can a builder do it or do I have to call a specialist?

could be a metal plate inside the cowl connecting with the flue loose?

If you've not got a fear of heights, and have a set of ladders, you can do it yourself.

Turn off your fire/whatever is connected to it, get up on the roof with a bucket of mixed sand&cement and a trowel...

And re-cement around the flue, from the flue towards the edge of the breast, going down, so water runs off it, as apposed to collecting.

Or get handyman/builder to do it...

do you think that is the reason any other clues?

I had it checked up there about 2 years ago and he did a bit of flaunching somewhere up there

We've had heavy winds recently, and today especially.

It's normal to hear things echoing down there, and in this weather, it could sound bad.

It all depends on the noise really.

I'd consider waiting until the weathers better, and if its still occuring, ask someone to have a look.

If the gap between the liner and the brickwork were filled with insulation material as is best practice then that problem is unlikely to occur!

sounds more likely it is the cause what sort of insulation material is required and can a builder do it?
