Painting and plastering.

Hi everyone.

I'm having my ceilings skimmed soon, but my plasterer is having some family issues and we havent set a date for the work yet.
I am anxious to get going though with the other work, if I get on with the gloss picture rail and skirting boards and matte on the Walls before the plasterer comes will it be wasted work when he does his stuff?

It could very well on your part be a waste of time, I would wait until the plasterer has finished.

A good plasterer won't make much mess so it could be possible, if you are in a desperate rush, to do the glosswork, from which fresh plaster can be wiped immediately with a damp sponge. It is not wise to do the walls though as even if you use a wipeable paint there can often be dusty marks left behind.

As Dec says, it's better to leave all the painting until the plastering has been done so that you don't find you have wasted time and money.

Decorating is the finishing trade and you would be well advised to allow the spread to finish and the skim to dry out before you apply any paint.

Maybe you could do most of the prep? There'd still be a bit to do after the plastering but you'd have the worst of it done.
