Bath and Shower mixer trouble

Hi, I hope someone can help me please!!

I have a bath and shower mixer, with a knob that you pull up tpo divert the water from the bath taps to the shower head.

The knob will not raise, it seems very stiff/stuck, so water only comes into the bath! I have not used it before, and it seems like it is very old!

Is there anyway I can free it?

Any help would be much appreciated

You cold try giving it a squirt of WD40... I have come across these where the O-ring has come adrift and got stuck in the mechanism.

Do you mean when unscrewing it you found an o-ring?

It is very very stiff. I have tried force but no joy

Would unscrewing the nut help?

Yes, but not all of them can be unscrewed.
