Dear All

I already had my own suspicions & ideas; & as usual the posts on this forum are very helpful but I just thought I would post a new question to get some current opinions.

I moved into my new home approximately 6 months ago & the Puma 80e has been no problem so far. Having come back from a 2 week holiday I went to have a shower (run off a standard mixer tape) & the temperature was going hot & cold throughout. On further investigation when the shower is turned on the boiler fires up & rapidly heats the water; the boiler then gets to a point where the flame goes out & the water is not heated. A minute or so can pass & then the boiler will fire up again; the cycle will then re-occur. It seems that that the boiler is getting hot swiftly & that the cold water entering the boiler is not able to take the heat away from the boiler quick enough so it temporarily shuts off until sufficiently cooled, before then firing again. My question is; is this likely to be a scaled exchange not allowing sufficient heat transfer or could it just be the wax capsule, which from other posts sounds like it can restrict the water flow to such a degree that heat is not removed quick enough by the poorly flowing water? I can confirm that CH works fine & that the DHW issue does not seem to occur if CH is on.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

None of your suggestions are likely to be the cause of your problem.

It is quite likely to be a gas setting and that would in theory be checked during a service. But in my experience 95% of those servicing boilers dont check this and many dont even know how to check or set it.

So you are likely to need to get a competent engineer ( not a parts changer ) who understands how boilers work and will be able to identify the problem. It seems unlikely that any replacement parts will be needed.

Thanks for the relies gents. As you say needs a "proper" gas engineer; I am in the South East London/North Kent area, can you suggest anyone at all?

Thanks

Try Bengasman or Gasguru from this forum.

Contact them via the information in their profiles.

If they dont want to help then I might be able to but its always better to get someone from closer.

I did go to Gravesend last month though!

Is the flow rate poor when opening a hot tap , does it increase with temp?.

The flow rate is slow at first & then gets better as the water heats. I thought this was a feature of this boiler?

Thats quite right and its obviously working properly.

In fact I have never seen a failed one!

Graham81,
Wondering if you had have any solution to this problem; it seems I have got similar problem (but with Puma 100e)...so instead of starting new thread, thought if I can resolve it...

If not then will start new thread.

cheers.

I expect Ben or Gasguru went and fixed it for him!

But you are probably too far away for either of them!

Its unlikely your problem is the same anyway. In his case running a hot basin tap as well as the shower would have stopped the problem!

Hi Tony, thanks.
- guess I got very similar issue; temp is fluctuating specially at low flow...
I have opened a new thread explaining complete problem history..
See here
Cheers.
