I have 3 quotes for a replacement boiler. Prices vary, but I'm happy to pay more for a better service.

1. £2000 to provide a Vaillant Pro 28, condensing pipe to leave house by boiler and run along north elevation of property, flush system. One recommendation.

2. £2225 to provide a Worcester Bosch si30, run condensing pipe behind units and into sink waste pipe, power flush system. One recommendation.

3. £2100 to provide Worcester Bosch 30si (£100 more for 27CDi), run condensing pipe behind units into sink waste pipe, chemically flush system & notify Gas Safe for compliance certification. Extra £300 to power flush system. Three recommendations.

If anyone has any comments on the boilers suggested, whether to power flush or any other comments that would be great (I am a female with no idea).

The system is 12 years old and my radiators have always been hot all over, although an inhibitor has never been used and I do know the water is black (almost oily).

this bit means you need a flush
also get a magnetic cleaner attached to the pipe work, to help maintain the new system
i am not going to comment on the prices as i have not seen the job
but they are top range boilers so you will pay more

All installers should do the notification!

Its far better to power flush if its dirty.

Not all have the equipment to power flush! I would say that an installer with the pump is better equipped and accustomed to doing a better job!

Don't have the condensate pipe run outside, if it freezes in the winter your boiler won't work. Make sure your flush (agree you need it) will be a proper power flush using a reversible power flush pump (temporarily put in place of your pump to do the power flush) as I had some quotes and when questioned, 2 of them said garden hose and outside tap.
Can't comment on prices and they will vary depending where in the country you are, only to say that here on the south coast I paid around £2.25k for a WB 24, power flush and inside condensate pipe, about 3 years ago, after having rejected the garden hose guys and one other. Like the boiler but was surprised how noisy the exhaust was/is. Don't know if all condensing boilers are like this as I was upgrading from an old non-condensing boiler. Maybe the real gas guys on here can comment on exhaust noise ?

Thanks for your replies.

Sounds silly, but is a chemical flush different to a power flush? The first sounds like a quick clean and I was told a power flush will not only sort water out but pick up any muck off the inside pipes and radiators.

Good to know they are top range boilers. I know you haven't seen the job, but does any have any preferences for a Worcester si30, cdi27 or Valliant pro28, ie what would you want in your house!

vailiant but you have a full service once every 5 year minmum
still recommend the yearly one

Possibly but it shouldn't be.

Power flushing should use chemicals, although it's not inconceivable that someone would just use the machine with plain water in order to save money / make more profit.

I doubt it as the chemiclas don't cost that much in the scheme of things. Also, I always get the customer to observe the crud, it makes them feel better about the expense!

Yes it is. The power flush employs agitation and increased flow to clean system, and to finally flush. A standard cleanse while mobilising the crud, expects it all to flow out of a small orifice, ie drain cock, and to defy gravity by flowing in a vertically upwards direction

Both WB and Vaillant are meant to be the best boiler brands, I've got a vaillant and it's been good for me so far!!
