Bath Ideal Waste System really stiff

Does anyone have any experience with the Ideal Standard bath waste system - as described here - http://www.ideal-standard.hu/letoltheto_katalogus/first_bath_2008.pdf

I've got one on our bath, but it's really stiff to turn. Opening the plug is virtually impossible!! Could it just have some dirt in it? Is it worth taking it off and giving it a good clean out?

Luckily the bath isn't fully installed yet, so taking it off isn't too big a task. Problem is I can't find any others to replace it with, as the bath doesn't have an overflow (it's all built into the waste system). Any ideas?

coucld be grit, has it ever worked or is this the first time instalation? if its the first time its been used it may have been installed incorrectly or as simple as its a faulty part exchange it with your retailer

It's always been stiff.
I installed it about 18 months ago, so probably too long ago to send it back.

I'll take to to bits and see if I can clean it out at all.

I have just fitted this bath/waste system in my house, but had no issues with mine. Unortunately to take the trap itself out you either need a special tool or a pair of bent nose pliers to unscrew the plug hole from the tap. I needed to call Ideal out as you know the trap comes sealed from the factory, unfortunately they forgot to put any silicone sealant on mine and it leaked. The engineer showed me the "special tool" which is a round piece of rubber with lots of notches in it, although it was him who said you can use some bent nose pliers. The waste works via a cable system, so first thing to check is make sure they haven't put too much silicone on the round knob where it seals against the bath. The cable then pushes a mgnt up and down in the waste itself so this would be the next thing to check that it is moving freely.

Hi, Im having a problem with my waste. its all hooked up to the bath but what do you use for the waste? What did you put into the outlet bit with the collar thing?

There should be a magnetic plug that moves up and down that you put into the collar (if you mean the bit that the waste water runs through).

Gave mine a good clean up and it works fine now. Not convinced it's a brilliant design though, as a couple of bits have broken off the silver plug cover through taking it off to clean hairs out.

its the bit underneath, where the water drains from, Ive got the plug sorted ( i think) nd the overflow pipes but the bit where the bath empties has me stumped . The actual waste outlet what goes into it?

If it's the bit where you connect the waste pipe, I took the outer collar off, leaving a smaller collar instead. Normal bath waste fittings then attach to it. I think I used a 45 degree bend to begin with.

If it's not this bit, post a photo of the bit you are looking at.

Just normal 40mm waste connecters will work.
Like this, but I used the type with compression type - http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.j...ificationsSpecificProductType=overflow_tubing

I presume the coller is there if you use bigger pipe.

tried a 40mm its still loose?

The coolar increases the connection to 50mm. Just take it off and use a 40mm Compression on it. The ideal man said its not a 40mm out let instead somthing like 37mm or 38mm (inch and a half), but he said 40mm done up tight will be fine.

right managed to do it using a rubber coupler with a collar on either end but now the flipping plug won't work?
it won't go down all the way any ideas?
