...how do I relight the pilot light on my Heatline S24/S30 compact combi boiler?

We have just returned from a two-week holiday to find that the pilot light has gone out and the red 'bar' LED is flashing. The system pressure gauge is halfway between 0 and 1. I've no idea how long it's been off.

I realise this may be a stupid question but I've no idea how to relight it and I can't make head nor tail of the manual which seems geared more towards installers than householders without any technical knowledge. Any help would be much appreciated!

Are any of the red lights flashing?

Try opening the filling loop valves, and re-pressurising system up to 1 bar. To reset boiler, turn the function knob to '0', leave for a few seconds before returning to it's previous position.

Low water pressure.
You will have a filling loop somewhere (normally under the boiler), the system needs topping up to 1 bar (when cold). The filling point may not have a tube attached (just 2 valve points) so make sure the filling tube is attached (screwed by hand) if not, you will need a filling tube (they are usually left attatched tho).
To reset the boiler turn the middle switch to 0 then back to water and heating (left).

Stupid question #2...

Is this filling loop anything to do with the different coloured taps underneath the boiler that are visible, or do I have to take the casing off?

The filling loop will usually be connected between the heating return pipe (large pipe on right side of boiler), and the incoming cold water pipe. It is usually under or near the boiler, not the colured taps at the bottom of the boiler or inside casing. Look for a flexible metal braided pipe. It may/should be removed when not in use, so the flexi might be stored elsewhere, and all you will find are chrome connectors/isolator fittings on 2 pipes.

Thanks, found that now. It was attached. There is a blue tap attached to one of the valves - how much do I turn this on? Do I leave it on until the gauge goes back up to 1? Do I need to turn anything else on?

Okay done all that now and pressure is back up to 1 and boiler is working. Some water shot out of the bottom but I assume that's simply because I overfilled the system and won't cause any major problems?

If the pressure is much more than 1.5 bar (with system cold), you may need to release some. Opening a bleed screw on a rad and draining into a tray or bowl until pressure is correct is a good way.

Always choose the rad that's NOT in the room with beige carpets! ;)

And disconnect the filler loop when finished. Store it where you can easily find it again.

Many thanks. I'll try bleeding the rad (bathroom where there's no carpet, only wipe-clean lino!) tomorrow. At the moment, the pressure's hovering around the 2.5 mark, although it's had time to warm up.
