Who can fit a boiler?

There is a difference between working under supervision and what you seem to want to do.

What does your mate say?

if its not so hard sit your exams, pay your money, pay your public liabilty, buy and run a van ,fga calibration and everything else to be legall.Other rgi have to do this to provide a safe and legall service .Then once you have done all this and people try to fit boilers and gas work ilegally you can see why so many RGI get cheesed off with this situation

like tommy has told you peter, hanging a boiler is nothing like brain surgery, if you're a plumber, you're one step up from a bin collector, only the bin collector did't spend £4000 for someone to show him how to do it, get real, the manual will also tell you what sort of wall it can go on, talk about

The op doesn't see a problem, he sees a way of undercutting everyone by not paying his dues. Him and his mate will come unstuck when they work for the wrong customer.

tommy - in the event of a problem, who's public liability insurance would be affected?

I don't know why you think a boilers going to explode just cos tommy's not gassafe, he knows what a walls capable of holding, and don't forget his mate is checking his work, He's already told you he's not doing the gas or flue,

I'm not suggesting anything like that would happen with tommy doing the work any more than his mate. All I'm clarifying is who is ultimately liable for any problems that might occur. Presumably bad things can happen, or else there would be no need for anyone to take up insurance.

yes I see your point cantaloup, though the insurers will wriggle anyway, even if a gassafe reg kocks up, they will most likely say its down to bad/poor workmanship and leave the installer up the creak without a paddle,
our industry is full of leeches wanting our cash but giving nothing back when we need it, ..like the old saying, they'll give us a brolley when the sunshines and want it back when it rains

you only have to read in the combustion chamber about what can happen to boiletrs when the are not correctly fitted...the days of boilers being slabs of oversized cast iron and simple to understand have long since gone...dry fire one make and it will cost £300 for a new fuse (plus heat exchanger)

ok his mate willl probably check it, and it will probably be ok...but its a bit silly to ask professionals on a public forum....how do you expect us to react???

Yep, I have no doubt of insurers wriggling out. Which is why a previous post suggested the difference between working for his mate under supervision and installing it independently and having it signed off. We can all see where tommy is coming from and who can realistically blame him for wanting to do things this way?
