Like a fool I agreed to paint some kitchen cupboards, wasn’t keen but a good customer etc….
It’s turning into a nightmare, prepped with sugar soap sanded wiped with white sprit all good to go.

Although the paint is Ronseal Cupboard paint which is white sprit clean up, it dries in an instant, I just can’t keep a wet edge. Tried getting it on fast with a roller and laying off with a purdy but still too quick for me.

A small splash of white sprit seemed to help a bit but as I was loosing the will to live I gave up for the day.

I have ordered some owaltrol from Brewers, I haven’t used it before but have heard good reports.

Has any one any other suggestions please? Other than downing a bottle of scotch or leaving the country!

Thanks footprints.

i painted mine recently just to tidy it up before i buy a new kitchen in the sales. i used zinsser BIN (as i had some in the van) and it adhered very well. i then used dulux oil u/c and dulux oil satinwood and looks pretty good. my cupboards were dark wood veneer if that helps.

Thanks for the quick replies, trouble is the customer spent ages finding the colour she wanted. With satinwood, which will need ESP or Zinsser primer, she will be searching ages again for one she likes!
I wanted to be out by the end of the week at the rate she picked the last colours I will be there for Christmas :( !

Then stick with Owatrol, this will offer you more open time regarding a wet edge.

It will also provide you with smoother application.

Thanks Dec,
Hopefully the stuff will be in tomorrow afternoon, now I'm off to open the scotch!
Cheers all :)

Owatrol is a brill product, and far far more than just a paint condioner. ;)

Used the owatrol today, big improvement!

26 shaker doors, 6 draw fronts & 6 end panels, just had 5 of those pesky runs in the corners of the mouldings but will sort those out monday when it's dried.

Certainly sold on owatrol, might try the version for water based next time I have to use quick drying gloss.

Best wishes,

Floetrol performs in the exact same way regarding water based/acrylic systems.

I am with thedec.

Both owatrol and floetrol are life savers.

ESP is also good as a self etching primer over acid cat spray on preprimed doors.
