Thats certainly one way.
A good beef stew is another. Loads of pulses.
Some crusty bread just baked.

Home made Oxtail soup.

Home made Lasagna.

There you go a few more to try :D

Just the other night my missus walked into the living room wearing a delightfully seductive little pvc number, fishnet stockings and high heels. She handed me a cold beer and said "You relax honey and I'll be back in 20 minutes and do that thing I do best for you."
I thought , bloody great... I love Egg and Chips, with Mushy Peas.

Must dissagree with you on this one, my Italian bro-in-law is a brilliant cook, i paid a visit one day where he used to work, which makes the best kebabs in Bristol, (Glos rd. next to the arches) he was upstairs preparing a skewer thingamejig, if i hadn't been a veggy i would have when i saw the state of the preparation room. YUK!!

Don't spoil the dream.
If we saw half the places food was prepared in we would never eat anywhere...
We did refurb of a Turk cafe never touched the kitchen, bar fire boarding the ceiling and plastering. They then gave it a quick tosh out and a wipe over. The council then gave it 5 stars for hygiene. I wouldnt even take a cuppa from them the place was manky.

I cant eat a kebab sober, I have to be literally 'in the beer' before I can consume the dirt and chips, obviously with lashings of chilli sauce!

Beef stew! With bread and butter :D Might have to knock one up tomorrow now!

One thing i do miss; around this time of year in Germany every town has a fair or fete and the glu wine i could drink like it was going out of fashion, air temperature hovering about minus 20'c, and cheap red wine, hot, laced with brandy, whiskey and herbs, it used to cost Dm1 per beaker, that was Nov.81
