Not so much of a problem as a query..Been with bt broadband for years changed the other day to talk talk.I was sent a new talk talk router to use.

I have left my bt hub router connected and even tho im now with talk talk the bt hub is still working my speed has increased too from about 8mb to around 12 mb.

So why does my bt router still work as im now with talk talk?

Has the service been moved to the new supplier yet? There's usually a delay of 8-10 days.

yes it went live on the 9th dec and checking speed on the talk talk site or on speedtest.net says im connected to the talk talk network..how can this be possible if im still using the bt home hub?

Thats a bit odd and shouldn't work in theory...

TalkTalk is owned by Carphone Warehouse.
BT is...well just BT.

For your router(s) to get online, they'll have to give a username and password to your ISP (BT/TalkTalk).

So a BT homehub won't be able to "talk" to TalkTalk and vice-versa, as the usernames & passwords will be different.

What could it be?

Well, maybe you're wirelessly connecting to your new TalkTalk router without realising?

If you go to 192.198.0.1 and long into your router - do you get TalkTalk or BT Home Hub admin screen?

Alternatively, has someone changed the BT HomeHub username/password to the same as TalkTalk (then it could be able to connect...possibly).

Finally (and I'm not sure on this), it could be due to your line-type. Some people are on Metallic Path Facility lines, which can act weirdly. (possibly..).

It's very possible that TalkTalk don't require authentication. I refuse to deal with them so I'm not sure.

As for MPF.. I think you'll find that has nothing to do with it.

well i tried 192.198 thingy and it says problem loading page but got a bookmark that brings up the bt home hub home page and says connected..yet when as i said i go onto speedtest it says im connected to the talk talk server..Its working at a fast speed if I unplug my homehub and plug in the talk talk one it might be slower so loathe to do this as my speed is excellent at mo..I havent changed any settings or passwords just carried on using the bt home hub on changeover day as was waiting for what I thought would happen ie the broadband light would go out on hub and then would connect the talk talk one but it didnt happen
no its not connected wirelessly but by the lead from the back of router into pc

erm....1 phone call to TALK TALK could solve this conundrum for ya so get on it and let us know what they say

my 2 pence worth, regardless of the wireless modem both IPS's were able to give it your public IP and give you your Internet, not something I would of assumed but ya learn something new....

please ring them, am intrigued!!

Your are getting faster internet from TALK TALK than BT cos TT are giving you it faster, all depends what you pay for, mine is 20 but I can get 30 or 50 or even 100 I think so the wireless router is irrelevant, I would use the TT as it will be newer

If speedtest.net says he's connected with Talktalk, he's connected with Talktalk.

You wouldn't assume that the same device can work with two different ISPs? Have you considered reading say, RFC 1661?

Because newer automatically equals better. Frankly, all models of Homehub are a joke. But so is the most of the stuff Talktalk supplies, so..

well from a purely looks point of view the black homehub looks better than that crappy white plastic thing that talk talk sent

I have a hub phone that is on the front of the hub which was on the bbtalk thing but that seems to have been disconnected and the blue phone light on hub is off.

It all seems very strange
