Hi. I have recently passed my C&G 6129 Technical Certificate in Plumbing and cannot find a Plumber who I can do my NVQ part with so I am looking at doing a fast track course with a company called RF Training based in Hockley, Birmingham, they said for me i'd be better off doing C&G 6128 Heating and Ventilation then go on to do my Gas, can anybody tell me as a qualified plumber, if I was going to apply for a job with you and said I had C&G 6128, would this be a recognised qualification to get me the job?

I wouldn't entertain the fast track course mate.

When I completed my apprenticeship I gained C&G Heating & Vent quals. I've not had any trouble getting jobs. They only seem to recognised NVQ's though.

Only advise I can give is send out your CV to various firms in your area, maybe visit their office and hand over your CV. You could register with a few agencies. If you haven't much experience I'd say try and get a job as a mate, wages will probably be around £8 a hour. Or just go for it and apply for a plumber position and see what happens.

Good luck though, its tough out there!

Thanks for that advice mate, much appreciated. I did some research yesterday on doing my nvq for level 2 and was informed that I have til september to complete it, I havent done any plumbing since college june 2010 apart from fit some taps and few column radiators - how much is involved can you remember? I have scrapped idea of fast track.

how much is involved can you remember?

I take it your asking about what is involved to complete the NVQ?

I can't remember that much tbh, it was a while back. I had to complete a certain amount of jobs and create a portfolio. I think there were about 15 or so various jobs, i.e fit a bathroom suite, outside tap, indirect hw cylinder, gas boiler etc etc. Each job/portfolio had to be signed off by the fitter teaching me on site. Surely your college would be able to give you better advice?

If your doing a NVQ you really need to be working alongside a plumber, heating engineer etc.

I have contacted the college, they no longer do the nvq side so have contacted another college which I can do it with so now ringing around to see if I can do 2 days a week unpaid just for me to get through it...........it's a hard time at the moment as everyday i'm not doing anything in plumbing industry, i'm losing knowledge what i've already learn't........
