Changing from room Stat to TRV's in large house?

For some reason my 4 bedroom house has a room stat in our living room, after that we have to heat a huge stairwell before the other rooms. So I was thinking of just putting TRV's on all the rads in each room to better use my precious gas!
WHAT do I do with the redundant room stat in the living room (please don't say "Electric's Forum mate!") as I think this is still plumbing??
Any wild ideas welcome..

Step 1- Leave your stat alone and go ahead with your trv's elsewhere.
If the trv's shut off too soon move the stat to the hall and hall trv to the lounge. Possibility of the need for a bypass if you don't already have one, but see how it goes.

What function has the bypass got, is it a safeguard against system over heating? If I still have the room stat working that will turn the boiler off won't it?

If you end up with only trv's and they all shut down problems for the boiler.

Automatic bipass is the required fix.

No TRV in zone with rstat is firstly required, above fix is for idiots who don't do right thing in first place.

Plum, the idea is that the boiler turns off in due course. The position of the stat is crucial to ensure that doesn't happen prior to the trv areas being satisfied. If your lounge gets toastie real quick then chances are the rest of the house won't be up to temp in time. Stat in hall generally better. Do a search on roomstat- it's well documented on here.

If the lounge heats up first then turn its controlling rad valve down, then the rest of the house is quicker to heat relative to the lounge. We used to get the whole house right doing that, without trv's. It isn't NO control, it's "open loop" control.

Just upgrade to Part L regs and all will be well, get a corgi with DHE city and guilds to sort it for you, thats why we HAD to have one.

Agreed Chris but he should know that only works on the first warm up if the stat's not in the best position, ie not in the area that cools first, which would generally be the hallway.

Hallway cools first does it? New one on me but I suppose it could well be the case, what with extra bodies (1.5kW each, someone said) in the living room.

Heat disappearing up the stairs and front door getting opened letting in t' draught. If stat is in lounge, especially with door shut- zilch in the response department. And please note the liberal use of the word 'generally'!

Thanks for all the contributions to my post, the advice was very useful!
I moved the room stat to the "hall" (bottom of the stairwell, not close to exterior doorway) and it now works a treat, heating all the rooms
