Hello there,
Can anyone help, please?

Headlight not working on driver's side, and thought it was a bulb, but bulb ok, but found blown fuse. Still not working when fuse replaced, so checked the wiring going into the headlight housing, and as it looked a little broken, I re-joined wires and hey presto headlights worked. Just about to congratulate myself, BUT, as soon as headlights put on main beam - the fuse blows again!
I have very limited understanding of such things, and common sense got me this far! Am I getting well past my pay grade??

Any suggestions as to what this might be, or where I should look next?

Thank you

Anne

Anne, check that you haven't crossed any of the 3 wires, and look for abraded insulation that could be shorting out. Make sure the correct rating of fuse is used also.
Then, check the earth connection, that is connected onto the bodywork nearby (usually a 10mm bolt).

Thanks John,

Correct fuse used and wires not crossed- I will check the insulation and will look at the earth connection in the morning.

Good luck with it Anne - there are two reasons for the fuses to blow.....
1) A direct short to earth due to faulty insulation
2) Excess current being drawn due to a connection fault - i.e the full and dip bulb filiaments being lit at the same time, hence my notion to check the earth connection. It shouldn't be possible to connect wrongly to the bulb, unless the connections have been 'modified' by a previous owner....!
Excellent wee cars, the Micra, right from the first K10.

Might be a faulty bulb? sounds ridiculous but I had the same problem, replaced the bulb and it worked fine...

try swapping left and right around?
