Hi,

Am renovating my house and have just had the CH system installed by Gas Safe plumber.
However has has not fitted a room stat anywhere.
There will be TRV's fitted but these have not been installed as yet.
Is this allowed in a new system?
Will this end up costing a small fortune to run the system?

Thanks

you should ideally have a room stat yes, what did it say in the quote?

Didn't actually get a written quote as he is my other half's, friends, dad.
I was there when he came round to measure up and he 100% did mention putting a stat in the hall.

He MUST fit one.

If he hasn't get him to fit a decent programmable stat like the Honeywell CM range.

I asked him about a programmable timer as the boiler is in the old outhouse to save space. Clearly if the heating's not on or set too low i don't want to go outside and unlock a door just to switch it on.
He seamed very confused about this and said he hadn't really allowed for it as was trying to do a cheap price for us.

Would seam that i had it installed cheaply but will end up spending everything i've saved on running the CH

Ah, the old pay peanuts get monkeys scenario...you get what you pay for

He wasn't MY first choice!!!
unfortunately the Mrs is the boss and his quote was the smallest.

I really need to learn to put my foot down.

Mate's rates......... Load of crap!!!!!!

How can he register the appliance to comply with regs and building regs, and complete the benchmark without ticking the NO box?

Boiler outside? Frost stat? or built in?
Must have a room stat  Thats a minimum.

Cheap means cheap!

Not sure about reg's and the NO box???

Boiler is Ariston E 24 Combi, had a look on Ariston website and doesn't mention built in frost stat.
Installed in old outside toilet. Single skin walls. Toilet still there, cistern has been freezing in the cold weather of late.

I have a feeling that he will try and claim that it will be my sparky's job to wire up the stat is this right??
My view would be that as the stat is part of the CH system then it's his responsibility???

Surprised people where saying MUST have a roomstat and it could not be registered if it didnt have one before they even knew what boiler was going in.

Yet again people not knowing the basics of what is asked for in regs.

There is a difference between must and would be better to have

The regs require that some control is installed. Weather compensation is best, naturally. Best control, best frost protection, best economy.

If TRVs "are going to be installed" it is crazy that it was not done when the system was drained down to change the boiler.

Sorry, but your wife has bought an unsatisfactory system from an unsatisfactory person.

Put her on for a good talking-to.
