I've had to replace my old toilet pan but am having serious problems fitting it to the old cistern I bought a new coupling kit first one was plastic which snapped when tightening bolts and second is metal which raises the cistern of the pan so when it flushes water gushes out of the back from where the donut sits!

It seems the coupling plate where the bolts won't allow the cistern to sit flush on pan

Should the cistern sit flush on the pan? Im assuming so!
Does any close couple cistern fit on any pan?

Any advice on this greatly appreciated!

Checked the cistern is level? Use a different donut?

And no, it doesnt have to sit flush with pan, Its not unusual to se a small gap.

If used a small donut which sits in the hole and a bigger one which sits on top both give same results and I'm guessing I shouldn't overtighten the bolts either

Cistern is no more than 10 years old base is flat so wouldn't think there be a prob pan is more or less same as old one except new one is completely flat where as old one raised about an inch for where the cistern sat on it

There is about a cm gap between cistern n pan where the coupling plate sits between the 2 after checking old pan it seems it had a lip which would have been around the coupling plate.

Does this mean I need to get a cistern tht would have some kind of indent which would hold the coupling plate or do I need to get a new pan with an indent or should this work with wht I got?!

It's a close couple cistern n pan the plastic coupling kit was from b&q crap obviously
My question is am I using the wrong cistern for this pan as there is no place for the coupling bracket to sit so it is raising the cistern up with a cm gap from the pan

As I said previously, you only need the nuts, bolts etc and a donut washer if fitting CC to CC.

The plate (shown at the top of the picture below) is normally used to fit a low level cistern (no bolt holes in the bottom) onto a CC pan.

i have that coupling kit but when flushing the water is gushing out the back through this cm gap

I havent got holes in my cistern to put the bolts through, I need the plate to attach the cistern, so im guessing I have the wrong pan for this cistern :(
