Password checking software

Hello
I teach IT skills. (Word, Excel etc)
We do not have access to the internet.
I want to do a session on Computer Security.
Part of the lesson will be on passwords.
I know there are lots of websites where you can check the strength of your password. But with no internet access, we (obviously) can't use them.

Does anyone know of a program I can download - that will check password strength? (So I can download it at home and take a copy of the program into the class and save it on the various PC's.)

Can anyone suggest a program, and when I can download it from?

Yes, I've got the internet at home - but not in the classroom.

Do you include use of a password manager in the lessons?

Software such as Lastpass or Roboform let you store passwords securely and you only have to remember one.

With all the logins that we need to remember nowadays, its good to store these in software. They also let you generate very secure passwords of random characters

I don't currently talk about a password manager. But it's a good idea - if I have enough time I'll tell my students about them. Thanks for the tip!

If its password managers then look no further than Keepass. Its open source and runs on multiple platforms. IMHO its the best free password manger there is. Best of all it free.

Also look at lastpass, which is also free.

Not only does it manage passwords, but it is also a form filler which will auto fill your personal information and bank/cc details in to web pages.

It works across systems and is accessed from the web or via a browser plugin

I'd also be worried about a third party storing my passwords especially lastpass since 2010. Not only that but the OP can't access the internet.

I would suggest that you might also mention the limitations of password managers, that if you lose access to it, you lose access to all your systems; and that if anyone hacks your access to the password manager, then they will have access to all your passwords.
