Hi all,

I am replacing a timed extractor fan (live/neutral/switched live) with a non timed version (live/neutral). Once identified what is the appropriate thing to do with the SL that will be unused? Is it sufficient to adequately wrap it up and leave it, or should I take more drastic action. Thanks.

Surely it's the switched live which should be used - and the permanent live which becomes redundant?

Otherwise how are you going to switch it on and off?

If there is space then IMO a peice of terminal block is the way to go. If space is REALLY tight you could use a heatshrink end cap but i'd rather not do that unless I had to.

Quite right, my OP should detail that the PL is redundant not the SL. But I'm OK just to insulate the PL and leave it in situ, no further action required?

I would also disconnect it at the other end, its then completely safe.

I would disconnect it at the other (supply) end and connect the disconnected conductor to earth.
Just disconnecting it will not make it "completely" safe as the loose end could easily touch on a live conductor.

the south pacific islands are a very active volcanic area.

However. securespark may have been referencing another topic in which "easily and accessible "were in debate.

I tried that humour in another post, but it went unheard or unrealised.

I actually spat out my tea in laughter when i read secures comments, He may have done in accidentally.
