Jag,
When you say you have a copy of Excel do you mean (A) MS Office Software is installed on your computer but will not open OR (B) do you have an Excel (.xls) file and it will not open.
Have a read of this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464297 and see if it cures the problem.

It seems like your Office/Excel install has become corrupt. Best option is to put the CD/DVD in the drive and choose repair option. This should fix the problem. If not, you can completely remove Excel and re-install it.
