Choosing New Laptop

cpu and gpu are the work horse of any system, and they are the key conponents, dont forget we are talking about laptops here, not a high end gaming pc.

anyone thinking of a new laptop on a budget, forget about brands, like i say its whats inside that counts.

lol been using windows since 3.1, there will never be a mac product or apple product for that matter anywhere in my home.

Everything counts. No use having a CPU if your RAM fails. No use having a good CPU and GPU if your LCD is so glossy you can't use it in a room with a light on.

No point having a laptop if the wireless chipset is unreliable. No point trying to type if the keyboard feels like jelly.

You get no second chances with a laptop. You get a good one or you're stuck with crap for the rest of its working life.

sale of goods act covers any failure - simple (especially with the new 2 year eu warranty)

buy your laptop online - play with it etc, if you dont like the keboard or the "wireless chipset" you send it back (within 7 days)

i have had many laptops and have built many pcs for lots of people. failure rates of conponets is low if not rare, laptops are more prone to damage due to the nature of the product.

So you can spend a couple of months sending things back and waiting for refunds until you're 'happy' (having not seen the good ones yet), or you can just go shop around properly and find a proper laptop.

I stand by my statement: The whole laptop matters, not just one or two parts which are common among all of them. It is an entire system you're buying.

most people do not know a thing about laptops or pcs for that matter and end up in currys or pc world, on a budget £400, a current i3 cpu, intel hd graphics 3 or 4 gig ram and 500 gig hard drive is all these people need.

And they don't have to. Anyone with half a brain can see how worthless most of them are as soon as they walk into a shop and see the ceiling in the display.

mate, in your local currys pc world, your looking about £400 for a current i3 laptop with hdmi.

thats the cheapest at pc world for a upto date lappy, look at comet and currys, if you willing to order a laptop from a online retailer, i can probably find one for a little less then £400

remember there is older i3 processors that will give you a cheaper laptop, nut i would not be buying older generation processors, when the latest ones are about

That has a glossy screen. I strongly recommend you go and see one in person before purchasing.

I suggest you trust Monkey. There's nothing he isn't an expert on when it comes to Computers. He helped me choose the correct Apple Mackbook a while ago.
