how to improve my current sound set up

ok this is my current set up it works but it's not great, i'm sure I can improve it without buying a home cinema and not having to use a seperate remote (i'm a cheapskate and lazy i know:smileyhappy, i will give as much detail as possibe

tv samsung le32c450e1w has optical audio output and r and w input only

hifi lg-221 - this is connected to the tv via the r and w aux input on the the hifi and the headphone jack on the t.v

sky hd box connected soley to the tv via hd ports on tv and box

hd dvd player is connected by the only (there is no aux in/out r and w or audio optical ports) hd port at the back of dvd player to hd port at back of tv

wii connected to tv via component in r, l, pr, pb and y

Will purchasing http://www.maplin.co.uk/digital-to-analogue-audio-convertor-504890 be the answer to my problems.

What is the exact problem ?

A headphone jack from the TV isn't ideal as it isn't a 'line level' output like a pair of aux RCA audio outputs, but you should be able to get something reasonable from it if you play around with the headphone volume I would have thought - you might have to turn it up a bit, but not so loud that it distorts.

If the headphone jack doesn't sound great then the converter you link to might give better results but, personally, I would put the money towards an AV amp or surround system as these would be HDMI-equipped, so you could connect all your sources individually and really get the best from them.

To get a better sound from the TV when I plugged in to the headphone socket a couple of active speakers. I get a good stereo effect were I want the sound to come from and only cost me a £1 in a boot sale.
