The two electric cables from my combi boiler run, loosely, across the wall to the switch, which is next to the boiler. Apart from looking messy are they safe left like that?
Also the switch is mounted resting on the tiled splashback and the cables have to pass between the tiles and the wall. Not only do they seem a bit pinched, but the socket has had to stick out a little to accomodate the cables and that looks bad too. I also have a socket above my cooker which I know does not meet the Regulations so I don't have a lot of faith in my installer!

Well you chose him, I assume.

What made you trust this particular tradesman?

This was installed by a pro who was gas safe and part p registered, he would have completed a minor works form for this.

I made him change it, in the end he ran a cable down from the ring main above (where the previous boiler had been wired) which was much less of a mess. He didn't seem to think that hacking a hole in a tile at the side of a socket and running a hacked off bit of boiler flex to the fused switch and then onto the boiler was a poor job! I still don't understand why he thought a manufacturer would make a switch that you have to hack a hole in the front in order to let a cable exit! I had to replace the damaged tiles myself.

The company had been recommended to me by a friend who had used them. With this and finding his apprentice going through my kitchen belongings I can hardly say I would recommend them.

Unfortunatly the general public have to put a lot of faith (and money) in regulation which at the end of the day can mean very little :(

I didn't choose him, I employed a project manager because I have no experience of building works etc.

Is your cleaner on holiday, or is it just the grainy image? :p

Possibly looking for cleaning products? ;)

Cheeky, that's the mess he created whilst installing the boiler/drilling through the wall to install the flue etc without putting any dust sheets down (except his tesco carrier bag of tools in the photo), trust me it looked a lot better as soon as he had left.

We finally managed to get the WB 5 year extended plan sorted out (had to bypass the installer who knew nothing about it and went directly to WB). First time it was serviced by WB the engineer left it leaking (he hadn't re-attached the syphon properly), a few days later his apprentice was sent to fix it. The same guy came back the following year to service, he admitted he was more than a little embarrassed that he had broken it and his apprentice was sent to fix it the previous year!
