Hi,
Just moved in to a new flat and the intercom box is removed from the wall. There are still wires but not sure if they are working. I dont even know where to start asking questions. Can I buy a new box and just plug the wires or it doesnt work like that.

Thanks for your help.

Do your neighbours' (in the same stair) handsets work? If they do then you could see what sort of handset it uses and get a replacement.

However your building may have a freeholder/factor/maintenance arrangement who carries out all the repairs.

Or do you mean the panel at the outside door is missing?

Thanks for your interest.
Its the inside panel that is missing. I was not sure if I can get any replacement or it has to be a specific one. Do you think I would be able to connect the cables myself. I dont really want to pay anyone for doing that if I could help.

1, The landlords have the responsibility to fix/replace. ( Read Lease/Rental agreement)
2. You touch, you damage you pay for the whole lot.
3, See above.
4, Did you break it and are trying to get out of paying?
5. See Above.
6, See all of the above.

PS, If you can fix it with no knowledge of what it is. Experience of interchangeable possibilities between systems. Without damaging the system as a whole PM me for a job.
Because I thought I am the best at this too :D

Give me a picture of the existing entrance panel.
A picture of a neighbours handset ( what you call internal panel).
A picture of the one you have purchased, I will show you how to make it all work.

The price will be a less of a cost than the council/housing association/residents association.
In other words free apart from the handset you have or will buy.
And I hope your not colour blind and are capable of following a simple diagram/instruction.

But you blow it up, you are in big dog poo land.

Deal?

Thanks :)

I will think about that. I wasn't aware that it was that serious.
I didn't break it was like that when I moved in.
Here is a pic of what I've got in the house.
Forgive me for not waking up neighbours at this time of the night to take a photo of their panel.

Tell me what you think before I go shopping :D View media item 45458

Is that on its side by any chance? I would need some markings and or a picture of the entrance panel as that photo isn't too good.

Moderator 11. I made an error when coming here on the registration as you have pointed out. Somehow my origin was posted in error. If you could change it to England then I would be grateful. If you require a town then Enfield would be the correct one.
Many thanks for your attention in this mistake by myself.

Indeed it does look a Stanley. They are incorporated into several systems so you would need the wiring codes and the correct model to even try and fix yourself. As another has mentioned this may be a communal system and you have to get the leaseholders involved or the managing agents.
