Can you use multi-finish on top of Gyproc Soundcoat Plus?

I know Gyproc Soundcoat Plus isn't meant to be finished, it's meant to be left rough and used on the bricks behind drywalls, but can you use multi-finish straight on top of Soundcoat? Would it still offer any soundproofing?

I've got a really shoddily built victorian brick party wall, and no space for a drywall on top. I'd like to take any chance I can to improve sound insulation whilst replastering, that doesn't compromise space.

I phoned British Gypsum for an answer to the above, but I honestly don't think the woman knew what I was talking about. She just said 'I suppose so'.

You are going to have damp problems using this method. You are sealing the wall that should breath, you will also cause problems next door. No you shouldn't skim it.

The wall's been wallpapered for at least the past 20 years, so it's not breathed in all that time with no damp issues.

I hardly see the point in asking for advice if you know what you are talking about. Most wall paper is breathable to some extent.

Leavnig aside the breathing etc hav eyou sued it before? It's very tacky for rukling off and filling out.

I'm wondering if you are going to use it if you would not be better putting a coat on, getting it nearn enough and scratching it, then bond and set over that.

You won't have any problem skimming onto it as long as it is keyed and not too much suctiion, but it's not something I've done.

This won't affect the coundproofing properties of it - most of which are sealing up wall fully

Appreciate your advice on damp Primer, but my question was about whether Soundcoat would reduce any noise when used as described above.

I've already weighed up the damp risks.

Bonding will degrade like skim.

Board is part of the sound proof job, so yes it will reduce.
