Hi Thermo. Depends mate on just what you're doing. The one I have (Makita) is a pain in the butt. You have to bolt the saw on to make it stable
It is heavy and large to lug about, and to be honest I never use it. I just put the saw on the floor and put a board along side it to support the timber
Also bear in mind that for long lengths you must use a rollerstand alongside it to support the timber.

The Dewalt one is the best on the market, whereby the saw is just clipped onto the stand and end supports hold your timber, but that will set you back about £160 - which is a lot to justify unless you use it alot.

Hope this helps, Woody

ive got a dw708 and mainly use it for decking construction and softwood sleepers. its one of those things ive looked at and wondered if its better than having it on the floor, but from the sound of it simpler is better!

I have the De Walt 708 with the stand and I have to say that the stand is a great piece of kit.

First of all the mitre saw is a pretty dangerous piece of kit and using the stand means you are in a much more comfortable position and no fears of anything dangling in to the blade.

Secondly if you have a lot of cuts to make you dont get a bad back leaning over the thing and your line of site is much better.

Finally the stand supports longer pieces of wood and can hold some serious bits of timber, so you dont have to worry about the weight of the timber tilting the wood and bringing the cut out of square

The whole thing packs down very neatly and very quickly and as stated mounting the saw on it is very quick. for me it completely transforms the usability of the saw and I wouldnt be without it :)

thanks for the reply, is that the dewalt stand or a copy type one?

I've got one of the Axminster cheapie stands, and use a Makita saw on it. You have to bolt the saw on, but the stand is much better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I bought the dewalt stand afew months ago now wouldn't be without it, you can move the saw anywhere along the track and extend the supports out its totaly adjustable so should take pretty much any saw also has stop fences for repeated cutting to length.
Wonder how I ever managed before.
Got two from transglobal engineering through e-bay for £285.96 the both including VAT and delivery www.transtools.co.uk

Mine is the DeWalt stand, and with this the saw just clips on and off (using the two black hand grips at the front bottom of the saw). Total time to open it out and mount the saw = less than 2 minutes (maybe even half that) and the same for taking it apart
