gjd controller and 4 zone, and the thing i was waiting the most for, the 24w led light from china, all fully tested and working, just waiting for it to get dark to give it a real test.

might need some help on conecting the gjd to my texecom 48, as i will need to fit a realy i belive to link these 2 pieces of equipment, not sure yet if i can use one of the outputs on the texecom.

I've never actually connected an alarm to a GJD system, but I'm sure it'll be straight forward enough.

hi rf, thanks for popping in, nice to know we have a gjd fitter on the forum.

i belive it will be staright forawrd to connect the alarm and the gjd, (a latter project)

now im fully aware the gjd is 240v and my led light is 12v (i knew before i bought them)

have you ever modified the gjd to run 12v lights? is it as simple as this:

240v to gjd 4 zone, then wire a 12v psu with suitable amps (240v to 12v psu), to a 240v out put zone on the gjd, giving me 12v psu within the 240v 4 zone? in affect turning a 240v zone output to a 12v zone output? if it is indeed this simple then this mod is a very handy one indeed!

Yep it really is that simple!

Just wire in the power supply to the 230V output as if that were a light, and supply the LED from the ELV output on the PSU.

Keep your PSU as close to the light as possible as volts drop on ELV wiring is a big problem and will effect the performance of the light.

it shows you on the expansion diagram how to activate lights from alarm, you will need a relay and 2 x in4002 diodes to activate the lights.

cheers bud, very surprised this is not a standard feature allready built in, lots of possibilitys with 12v lighting, but a cheap mod and a very usefull one.

hi mark, yer i seen that in the maual and understood it, its the relay and the other conponent that got me (on the pic) i didnt know what the componet was until you just told me so thanks for that.

when you get 2 mins, can you tell me what relay to buy and what diodes? never worked with these items before (i know a relay is just a switch but never used one) diode i dont have a clue what that is, but have heard of it, ill have a quick look at what the diode does too.

or can you link me to both bits on ebay when you get a sec?

Item number: 110881863714 relay
Item number: 290714221167 diode IN4002

or go to maplins/rs

because there are two area trip inputs for the alarm i think the diodes just stop the voltage leaking across IF you are tripping both areas.

Why on earth would anyone want to connect signalling to ANY sort of external detection?

There are too many variables that WILL activate the detectors.

The stage will be reached where the sensitivity will be reduced and reduced to stop this therefore ending up not giving the cover required to turn on the lights.

Sales brochures / info is all well and good but in the real world, a completely different story.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

its the alarm signaling to turn the lights on, not th gjd triggering the alarm.

so what your also saying is external sensors should not be used to trigger a ptz to move to location of the activation?.

all the cheap pir lights i have used over the years have been very stable, never had problems to be honest, afterall the cheap pirs are signaling to activate the halogen.

You've lost me I'm afraid.

If the alarm signalling is going to turn the lights on (?) why are you getting a GJD system which is designed as an external detection lighting system?

Perhaps I've had a bad day today?

You use the GJD as usual. Someone walks past a passive, it turns the lights on for a bit and then goes off. Standard PIR lighting setup.

Now what lee's doing is adding an extra input from the alarm so that if the burglar alarm goes off it puts all the outside lights on. This is normally done for improved CCTV clarity, and so that the burglars have less chance of skulking around in the shadows.
