Hi guys,

We're swapping mobile phone contracts/networks and as part of the deal we have to return our current handsets. Can you tell me how I can best make sure that all personal data is deleted from the phone before I return it. I can delete photographs etc..its more to ensure that details saved in online banking apps and e-mail accounts etc.. are deleted and aren't available for anyone else who gets my handset...?

If it makes a difference, its the Samsung Galaxy SII that I need to do this on...?

Thank you!!

Factory reset on many models only resets any settings that you have changed (profiles etc) and does not always delete or remove files saved or created on or in the phone memory.
If you are using a memory card simply copy any data from the phone memory to the card and delete the phone version. If you are using the phone memory solus then connect to a PC, transfer the files that you have and then delete from the phone.
Some manufacturers have a purge command that formats the memory - see the manufacturer website for details on your model or as suggested Google it.

It must be one hell of a deal if they are asking you to return your S2?

The factory reset and memory format is in the settings under privacy

Or type *2767*3855# then press send - this will wipe everything

What phone and network are you moving to?

The new HTC one X looks the business, quad core as well :D

The factory reset on the phone says that is erases all personal data on the phone.. so it seems that will do what I want it to do. I'll remove photographs, videos and other files manually first and then do that.

Snico - they're paying off our current contract which doesn't end until December, giving me a nice new Galaxy S3, knocking 15% off the monthly charge and yet giving more minutes and texts. So i'm happy for them to have the S2 back...although its a business contract so its not my decision anyway! Its the first time i've ever returned a handset - i've still got every mobile phone handset i've ever had...somewhere...??

Crank39 - the missus has the HTC One X, and she's happy with it, but i'm sticking with Samsung...upgrading to the Galaxy S3..when it arrives...? We're moving to T-Mobile/Orange.
