Pop down to the chemist for Natural Sea Salt Nasal Spray, have been doing this daily for years for a clear head, recommended by my GP and ENT rather than the prescription nasal spray ;)

I think the bit that interests me about this subject, is the thought of how we take things for granted.
Imagine being blind all your life, everything described and explained to you.
Then after an operation you see those things.
Unimaginable.
The deaf and blind may well see and hear their wives for the first time.
Frightening prospect in some cases.

Being deaf is hard work, you have to concentrate so much harder when lip-reading which is very tiring and lot of it is guesswork.

Couple of things that I find is that you sometimes have to be selective as to whether to make the effort of concentrating, especially in crowded rooms as it can be quite tiring. More annoying though is that I find that there is a bit of a delay between someone saying something and processing physically what they have said. Just enough time for the conversation to have moved on to make it hard to join in without looking a bit, well,"slow". Bit difficult for those of you who hear just fine to comprehend, I know.

I think deafness could have possible advantages.
Imagine being happily married, then your hearing is restored to discover your wife has a Birmingham accent for example. Lives shattered there and then.

There was a true story, some years ago about a bloke in Italy. Blind from birth. Happily married and perfectly content with life.
He then takes up the opportunity of receiving an eye transplant from his wife. It worked.
See's his wife for the first time (she wasn't a looker) And BOSH his whole world fell apart. He was perfectly happy beforehand. True story. There must be a moral there somewhere.

Could be worse. Could have always had perfect hearing and have been listening to Martian for 20 odd years

Sorry immy, just a little jibe - I expect to get a load of grief and eye rolling in return, rightly so!
