hello.
i have a potterton boiler and am just wondering if anyone out there has used the baxi heateam service which includes repair and garruntee for 12 months for the price of 345 pounds. im worried about the fact that my boiler has an intermittent problem and they could change a part and it may work for a while then if it goes wrong again very soon baxi could say its another problem and charge me all over again. has anyone out there used them and have reviews about their service
thanks

What exact boiler do you have and what are the and what happens when it faults.

???

A fixed price repair at that cost might be good value if a high cost part is needed.

But most repairs dont need expensive parts and those that do are mostly needing parts which are a lot less.

Yesterday I fixed a Potty boiler needing a new PCB and overheat stat for a total of £199

What is the model and the symptoms?

thanks for the response.
my boiler is a potterton performa 24 about 9 years old. not condensing. it has been intermittently working on hot water and ch. ie the shower will go hot and cold. its in a small 1 bed house running 4 radiators. the boiler fires down before it is suppose to, then fires up again and so on. when the boiler is hot it is more likely to work better. a gas safe man came round and checked it but didnt find any broken component so he just done some checks and it worked before he left. the problem came back again and i need someone who really does know how to identify the component that needs changing.
thanks.

That certainly does not sound as if it needs any major component replaced.

At the most I would expect to charge £136 or less.

I suggest you get a more competent independent as thats likely to be far cheaper, possibly less than £100.

If you say where you are by postcode then perhaps someone who advises on here may be able to help.

thanks again for the response

I could get there but Chris R and possibly others will be closer.

If you wanted to contact any of us about this then you need to email/phone from the details given in our profiles ( found by clicking on the forum name ).

Or possibly by sending a PM if this has been activated.

few things with boiler it could be
plate heat ex blocked ´,sensor faulty , burner pressure not set correctly, if all taps are working ok it maybe a faulty thermostatic cartridge in the shower

hi guys, thanks for the response, turned out to be the thermistor. cost me my last 14 quid of the month and took me 5 mins to change it. i now wish i was a boiler engineer. :D i would be a bit richer i think. :)

Too right, if you can set yourself up in the trade with just £14. The initial £30K and ongoing K's to stay in it, is clearly where I'm going wrong.
