I am looking for a way of getting an empty house to phone me back on demand.

I want to be able to ring it, and make it call me back for a minute or so.

Any ideas on how to do it?

It is my own house.

how do you want the calls to be triggered, remote by you or at the house?

For what reason ? why would you want the phone in an empty house ring you?

I would like to be able to phone it from somewhere else, and have the house call me back (on its landline)

it is to keep the phone line in use with billable calls.

Easy.

A good alarm system with RSS so when you dial in it calls you back to confirm.

A callback feature on an advanced phone system.( but a domestic).........Google is your friend.

A timer on a cheap relay fitted to a cheapo alarm.

List is endless, think outside of the box.

If you have the yale premium alarm in that home then set the mobility check for 12 hrs.

The alarm will activate every 12 hours as there would be no movement detected in the home.
This activation would mean it would call out to your mobile..

Of course this would mean you would have to disable your external and probably internal siren so you did not annoy the neighbours but it would still call your mobile of the home was broken into.

If you set your alarm at 9am then you would get two calls a day one at 9am and one at 9pm.

yes, but I don't want it to call me every day. Once a week, or every two weeks, is all I need, preferably on demand, such as if I can phone it to trigger the call-back.

I wonder if I could use a Yale 5000 type stand-alone alarm with autodialler, and point it at the dustbin area, or at the gardener's shed through a window, as he comes in while I am away but does not have access to the house?

That would be an idea if you rainproof the sensor but of course it would pick up moths , cats , hedgehogs etc.

There is also this. Yes I can see how you could put one of these somehwere to catch the dustman - good idea..

NOT THROUGH a window though it would have to be physically outside but you could make a simple plywood box or put it in some drainpipe with a top and a hole cut out..

You would just need to drill a small hole in a window frame to pass the wires through..and then seal with silicone..

you can get telephone remote control switches, couple one of these to an autodialler, so you phone in and operate the switch, the switch operates the autodialler which hangs up the phone line then dials out.

Velleman K6501 in kit form.

thanks, that sounds like a good idea. About £60 though

p.s.

it strikes me that I might be able to get the PC modem dialler to do it, as it would be nicer if I can make it call back on demand. I will ask on the Hardware section.

why do you actually want to generate a call

you will be paying the standing charge so that will surly keep it active ??
you can check the account on line

you can probably even do a line test for that address that may serve your purpose

if its for a legal reason auto diallers may not count

you could book an alarm call from that address it will show up on the bill as long as it has an answering machine to open the line

another though add a mobile to that address so it will show up on the bill and use it occasionaly
or have that number diverted to your mobile that may count as every time someone phones it will be diverted to your phone

Is this a disguised advert for a certain DIY system?
After watching several threads there seems to be a core of persons showing willingness to discredit anything else apart from a cheap system which in fairness is good for basic non security operations. But has a few gimmicks that try and copy a serious system.

Again sorry for the late reply, sometimes you have to work around the job. Not tell them your 9-5.
