I have just had a room plastered and refitting skirting - a mixture of original and new milled to match.
I intend to glue using Gripfill - unless anybody says that's a bad idea.
But the real question is what gap should I leave between skirting and floorboards to allow access? Room will be carpeted so small gap would be covered. Anyone want to suggest gap size

Fix the skirting tight to the floor...it helps to prevent dust from escaping from below.
Gripfill is ok so long as everything is perfectly flat, but personally I'd go for some countersunk plugs too.....the head of which is filled over later.
John :)

gripfill is overrated, often over priced, is also difficult to get of areas you dont want it and smells bad, try some of the water based ones much easier to clean up

Gripfill also do a water-based adhesive in a yellow tube. If you're getting it where you shouldn't then you'll love the Gripfill solvent-free - wipes off with a damp cloth when fresh (although I do have to wonder why you're so messy)

You need to leave about 3mm - 5mm for the carpet to be tucked under the skirting, otherwise the cut will be visible and look carp.

for carpet dont you usually put grippers around the edge of a room and tuck the carpet behind these to hide the cut?

And there was me wondering if he was being crabby.....
