Yeah, languages do evolve, but that's too far. At the school I work at, the English teacher told me that when the kids pass messages to each other, they write in that langauge.

e.g. I am goin 2 the tckshp 4 sum sweets. FanC a smke bhind the shed. Wot R U doin 2nite.

I've seen lots of different name changes within the speciality over the past 20 years!
But the real reason why they changed the name from sexually transmitted diseases to sexually transmitted infections was in an attempt to reduce the stigma - this is the same reason they changed the clinic names from STC (special treatment clinics) to GUM (genito urinary medicine) clinics to sexual health clinics these days.......!!!!

Here's a few more abbreviations we use in sexual health for your interest - but how many do you know though!?

HPV....High Pressure Valve

GNC.......Got No Cock
TV...............Trans Vestite
LGV.......Large Goods Vehicle
BV.....Ball Valve
NGU.............No Good U (going for treatment)

When lives maybe at risk this stuff must be controlled can be a devil either way ... But have seen potential major errors caught in time due to misunderstandings and/or misspelt acronyms being questioned.
We had a full listing on our intranet .. copy and paste was advised... The whole thing settled down quite nicely.
