Kitchen Sink Swivel Mixer Tap Loose

Hello.

I'm having a problem with my mixer tap that's very loose in the kitchen.

I know that its likely to be needed to be tightened from underneath but when I get under I can't even see if there's a nut to tighten as there is a massive kind of wingnut on the threaded bolt.

Here's an attempt at a picture to show you what I mean.

Can anyone help with how I get this sorted?

The nut on the threaded rod is what needs tightening up.
Normally these can be done by a nut spanner, but that is not a normal shaped nut, does the threaded rod have a slot on it that can be tightened up using a flat headed screw driver? You might get a couple of turns out of it if the thread has worked loose.
With limited access, it is sometimes easier to isolate water supply, undo flexible tap connectors from pipework and then remove the sink from the work top.
You will need to undo sink clips and will need resealing when replacing.
 
Thanks for the quick response. It's just a plain bolt, no head on it that can be adjusted. Hoping I can do this without removing the sink of possible.

Andy I watched the guy fit it and I'm sure that the gear used was all in the tap kit I bought from B&Q.
 
I have fitted hundreds of kitchen taps, I have never seen one fitted with that type of fixing.

Your plumber might have lost the nut and used a toggle fitting from his tool box, I have some in my van.

Can you post a pic of the tap?

I think this is one that you tighten from the top then secure the body of the tap onto the base with a small grub screw
 
Have a look under that ring that lifts up at the bottom of the tap there should be a grub screw, isolate the water supplies, then unscrew the grub screw & the tap should just lift off, revealing a plate underneath with a screw that you will be able to tighten with either a screwdriver or an allen key
