Hi we are intending removing an internal load bearing wall to make our kitchen open plan. Do we need to contact Barnsley council for permission to do this?? We have contacted a structual engineer to carry out the calculations for the RSJ.....any advice would be greatly received to avoid hiccups on the way. Yes you need to contact Building Control to get their approval. When you say open up the kitchen it needs to remain seperated from the stairs btw.

Hi Freddy... thank you, I will contact them tomorrow. Our house was built 2001. It has a kitchen/family room with a separate dining room. These all run along the back of the house (kitchen left, family room middle with separate dining room on the right). We will be taking down the wall separating the dining room to create a large/open area. The hall and stairways are separated through a door from the family room. Will try and post some pics for before and after :D
