Hello

I hope you're all having a wonderful summer and are basking in the reflected glory of the 30th Olympiad; I know I am.

I'm looking for a replacement busbar for a Crabtree CU - it's the old (pre-1992) Starbreaker 6000 product, with notches in the busbar and a screw clamp at the base of each MCB etc. Photo available if this description doesn't do it for you ;)

I've tried local merchants, eBay, and more distant specialists in obsolete stock; I've even tried Crabtree, but this CU is so old that I'm strking out everywhere. Next stop is to fabricate one myself, but I thought I would try here first.

All help gratefully received.

HI softus,
Its so old cannot recall what it looks like, can you post your pic maybe we can come up with an alternative type that is still available
Sounds similar to the old mk sentry or Bill

Can I make a couple of sarky comments before trying to help

Why not just put a new CU in?
Where has the old bus bar gone - metal theft must be rife in your area :D

I think I have one of these in my old board stock pile - how many notches is required?

@333rocky333: Thanks - I will post a photo.

@martinxxxxxx: Thanks - a new CU would be many £hundreds; a new busbar and RCBO will be merely £tens.

The old busbar is still there, but this is a split load CU and the rejigging that's needed to fit in the RCBO is not possible without a longer busbar.

I need a busbar with at least 8 notches in addition to the main switch notch. It would be simply marvellous if you have one.

I used to have spare busbar for them SB6000 units but i had a clear out a few years back.
They where very popular round this area in council propertys quite often with an RCD incomer on all the circuits.

Think I've tipped it the right way up..

I *think* I've got one in the back of the garage somewhere. I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know.

How are you keeping Softus? Feel free to drop me an email. I lost your address a while ago

Thanks to all for your replies.

Hello RF - I hope you can find one, else I'll be fabricating one

I also lost your email address, so please PM me :)

Well good news and bad news.

I have got an old crabtree fuse board, but unfortunately for some reason the busbar has been cut between ways 5 and 6.

I dont know if its still any good? Maybe you could braze it together or fit a jumper link across the cut?

Thanks RF, for digging out that CU and posting the photo.

I'm going to fabricate a new busbar - I think it will be better than brazing and not too much more effort.

Thanks again :)
