Hi, I have just started removing wallpaper from my bedroom wall and have discovered two parallel (either side of the corner) vertical cracks going through the plaster in the corner of the room. It is where the previous owners had a wall mount for a TV and one of the cracks runs through the drill holes. Can anyone help suggest possible causes of this and whether I should be worried about subsidence? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this?

I've uploaded the images here:

I always remember Kevin what's-his-name from Grand Designs saying that a crack isn't really a problem until you can get your hand in it! Maybe not to that extreme; those look ugly but not serious.

If it's an old house, expect cracks, par for the course if you know what I mean. I can't be sure from the photo, but it could just be the plaster and it also looks like it might have repaired before so it will depend how well it was done if that's the case.

I agree with Derek, they just look like the sort of cracks you find in old houses when you start stripping off the wallpaper.

If you are worried, just chip some of the plaster off and see if the crack is in the bricks as well - Are there any other signs of subsidence ?

Surely your surveyor would have picked up on it if there was any subsidence ?
