Lime plaster as tile adhesive?

Hi all,

I have a small floor area (less than 1m sq- it's an old hearth for a fire) that I want to tile over.

I have some lime plaster left over, can I use this as the adhesive and grout for the floor tiles?

The tiles are purely decorative and won't be walked on - a vase of flowers is likely to be the heaviest thing placed on them.

I wouldn’t advise using the lime plaster for laying tiles or any sort of plaster for that matter. You could use a mortar mix but the correct tiling materials won’t be that expensive. If it’s purely decorative & your tiles are smaller than 30cm then, a small tub of ready mix will probably be adequate but you would normally only use powder on floors. Use proper grout, again a small bag will only cost few ££, don’t try & bodge it with adhesive it will shrink back & look awful.

I'm in France and everything here for DIY is extremely expensive so I was hoping use up the plaster.

I'll swallow the cost and get a tub of pre-mixed.
