My heating switched off at 10.30 tonight as usual, but the pump is still going and it is keeping me away as the pipes to the loft run up the wall in my bedroom?

Also, I am wondering if this is linked to some electrically problems, as my heating sometimes does not fire up the boiler (conventional wall mounted job). boiler kicks in fine when I hit the reset button.

Also, I am experiencing alot of noise through the system, despite having a full BG Service power flush last April and a new 3 way valve in May.

I have a BG service contract, but passed experience has shown a little bit of research on my part makes it easier to explain when booking the call out.

Any advice gratefully received.

Reg

I had this problem a year ago, it was eventually traced to the programmer (Wickes) having gone wrong, about 5 years old. When replaced, all worked well again.

If only all problems were so easy to solve... ...actually it's unlikely to be the programmer. The point is that it's just the pump that continues running, not the boiler.

Do you have gravity circulation to the hot water cylinder? If not, then it certainly isn't the programmer. Faulty pump overrun stat sounds more likely.

The boiler tells the pump to run when there is a demand for heat or if it goes over temp. so as chris says it isnt the controller

my moneys on the pcb...changed a few of these with the exact same problem.

It does sound like the PCB, when it locks out & the red light is flashing the pump will run continuously until the reset button is pressed.

it is pcb as this should be where live to pump is from (new one needs a complete boiler rewire but is relatively straight forward i can now do it in 30 mins)

Thanks everyone - I have utilised by BG service contract, advised them that based on research it is the PCB and they are coming out next week.

Got to say, 1st time I've used this site and it has been excellent. :)
