Hi,

I have some solid oak flooring tongue and grove in which a 'sliver' of wood has been knocked off during some building work.

What is the best way to 'glue' it back on? I have tried PVA but it came off, the boards do not fit tightly together.

I do have some spare boards but the floor has been down for 2 years and is stuck solid with PVA in the T&G!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

P

was it pva or pva wood glue ??

if wood glue wont work then some contamination must be present that assumes the glue is ok

benny - is your flooring oiled oak finish? If it is then perhaps your glued slither isn't taking because of the board surface being 'impregnated' with oil. Try to remove some of this oil with a solvent ONLY on the faces that will be glued - avoid getting solvent on top surface of the floorboard. Use a cotton wool lug bud dampened with lighter fuel or nail varnish remover (don't use white spirit or turps) ... use one end of lug bud for solvent application then flip the bud and use the dry end to wipe off - repeat using clean lug buds.

Dry fit the slither before the above to check on tight fit, then the above then hold the glued-in slither in position with a weight (masking tape will not work due to the oil on the boards).

Hi P,

A good floor layer should be able to cut a plank out and replace the plank with a new one.

Not easy to do but this is the best way of sorting out the problem.
