Hi All,

We’ve just bought a property that was built in the late 70s.

In getting into the loft, I’ve discovered there are 3 water tanks. What I don’t understand is why there are 3.

One is the feed/expansion tank for the CH system, and I guess one of the others is the cold water tank (well plastic tub).

The unidentified tank exactly the same size/shape as the cold water tank and sits next to it. I only had limited access to the area when I went up to look, but it appeared to me that the two tanks were connected.

My initial thought was that it was a second cold tank, but having searched across loads of heating diagrams online I can’t find any showing a third tanks.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what it is any why it’s there?

Thanks
Andy

my dad's got the same setup at his house,
the third tank is most likely connected to the other as you've mentioned,
In his case it's to increase the capacity for gravity showers so it maintains head pressure for longer.

yes it's just extra storage as they prob couldn't get a big enough tank in the loft so two smaller ones
