MOD whoever what is the point of removing my post when you leave the 2 that quote it , shows up how intelligent you are
And why was it removed??.

CBF .
yeah go on and comment and give me a constuctive answer of why you want to charge £246 for a part that is less than 70 quid( if you want to use retail price they are 77 quid inc ) and then fitting on top which will take no longer than 45 mins.

Go on justify 169 quid above retail for the part .

If you have not noticed this is an internet site the question has been asked on which would suggest the OP knows how to look up things.
So what would the point be in LYING to them.
Are you to scared to tell the customer what you want to make so LIE and tell them the part is £169 QUID DEARER now that is on top of what you are going to charge for 45 minutes work.(that is not just a few quid is it)
So i would imagine you would be wanting to make around 250 quid total for 45 minutes work as i say no wonder this trade gets a bad name and rogue traders are constantly making programmes about it.

Gasservice85 if your 250 is parts and labour its still dear at 173 quid labour to fit a gas valve not bad money for 45 minutes work .

I see it as rather clever of the Mad Mod to do that!

It makes the point to you that you should not be posting using abusive words!

But it also enables the rest of us to see what you actually said!

Full marks to the Mad Mod in this case!

You seem to be unable to assess exactly what the RGI needed to do!

First visit, diagnose fault.

Visit spares merchant to buy new gas valve!

Second visit, fit new gas valve, test and clean boiler and controls.

Although I would charge rather less myself, I dont see about £150 as being an unreasonable labour charge in this case.

Nor do I expect that Parts Centre will only charge £70 for the valve.

You and others also conveniently forget that VAT needs to be added to spares prices and to the labour of VAT reg firms.

i fail to see where you are getting your prices from, i quoted the replacement valve retail price from pts which trade would get cheaper but no where near your £70, i can only assume that you aren't looking at the correct valve for the OP's boiler

Simple honeywell 240v grey push button gas valve.

Here is where i get my retail price from

http://www.gas-spares.co.uk/Catalog...ange/BALANCED-FLUE-Models/WM-282-RS/GAS-VALVE

One of the biggest parts supplier in the country whom i would pay £64 quid inc for the valve.

PTS and PC both charge me the same at £54 plus vat off the shelf .

So allowing a bit of leaway anyone charging more than £100 inc for this valve is taking the customer for a ride

Agile i have not forgot about Vat which is why i put the abbrevation INC.

And as this valve it is the most common valve out there and you are out there running a business doing repairs everyday . COMMON sense would be to have one on the van a bit like you would also carry various t/couple leads , pumps, motorised valve and spare motor.
Believe it or not customers like first time fix without being conned into paying for 2 visits and 300% mark up on parts

One of the biggest parts supplier in the country whom i would pay £64 quid inc for the valve.

The link you quote shows a price with VAT of £77.74 ????

You then conveniently forget that they must charge perhaps £7 for delivery ???

Also that most customers like a same day repair and not to wait up to three days for a part to arrive from Preston!

I aim to keep these valves in stock and would charge less than £99.

Tony

You really are struggling Agile arent you cnb asked for a retail price which is 77 quid trade price is 64. Which is same as off the shelf at PTS and PC

But this was an example of a retail price so delivery doesnt come into it but if it did if it is ordered by 5pm it is there the next day so not a day wait like your guessing.

If i wanted to give an even cheaper link here is one

http://www.euroboilerparts.co.uk/hw...03114-402809-307a266-053239-402809-483-p.asp.

So £54 INC VAT no where near the £246 being suggested

But this was an example of a retail price so delivery doesnt come into it but if it did if it is ordered by 5pm it is there the next day so not a day wait like your guessing.

Two problems that I would encounter with that!

Even if I did manage to order before 5 pm then I would have to wait all the next day at the delivery address because deliveries can occur at any time.

If no one else was available then I would have a delivery card left and have to chase round to try to get the package from the courriers the next day.

Thats why I aim to keep all common parts like this one in stock!

Why are you going on about delivery as i said this is an off the shelf item obtainable locally at the price i put a link to .

This is a DIY site and it is funny how retail prices are always mentioned but in reality merchants never charge them to even the public walking in off the street .
So yesterday i asked the manager of the local merchants which is the biggest in this country how much would you charge a member of public walking in and asking for this part that has been discussed here , his answer was £65 plus vat but obviously your price is cheaper.
Funny no matter how i add vat etc i cannot get this up to 246 quid that rip off merchant CBF would charge his customers

You need to use a better merchant then. My local wouldn't sell you a gas valve unless you had a gassafe card (or they knew you had one).

Gas spares should not be sold to the public.

Do u want a breakdown so u can work it out?

Turn up diagnose fault. £70
Supply part. £90 (retail)
Fit part. £35
Vat. £39
Total bill. £234

If that's not how u work fine but everyone else seems to charge this way.
All of my costs would be advised before starting.
Being ripped off is a matter of opinion, what one person finds good value. Ie an engineer turned ip diagnosed got the part and had it working within the hour. Another will see as expensive because " it only took an hour"

Why would you not use a merchants that sells to the public? that removes the 2 biggest merchants in the country PC anPTS.
The gas spares should not be sold to the public argument is a flawed one because where do you stop no electrical sockets etc banned no brake pads discs etc sold etc etc.

Your price i would class as expensive as opposed to rip off ,rip off is someone wanting more than what you have charged in total just for the valve

the retail price i quoted for a V4600A1023U gas valve was from MI Spares who supply pts it only gives me the retail not the trade price & unlike you i neither have the time or inclination to troll the web for a part for a job that has nothing to do with me.
