Hi, I'm new to the forum, though I've read many of the posts over a few months. I have a problem with my system and would be very grateful if anyone can find a solution.
I'm a DIY'er and have just completed installing a new excel system in my home comprising of 3 kpds, 3 door contacts, 4 pir's, 1 DT 'pir', internal & external sounders plus speech dialler. This is my second install having done a Veritas at my parents house a few years back.

The problem I have is that when the system is armed and tripped none of the detectors go into alarm condition. It is as if I've put all zones into omit or soak test.
On this occasion I've opted for double EOL wiring, but to simplify the install I used kit with built in resistors (4k7 alarm, 2k2 tamper).
Everything is powered ok, bell works on test, programming went ok.
However, the walk test didn't trip any sensor. Also the door chimes though set via program and user selection give no sound.
As a last resort I've returned to factory settings and re-programmed but got the same result when armed....silence!
I've concluded that the PCB must be faulty, but I'm sure that is very unlikely, so I am hoping that someone can point out the obvious to me.
Thank you in advance.

I'd say since the panel takes 10k, 22k and 33k resistors, not 4k7 and 2k2, (pg11) you've used the wrong resistors and the panel cannot see the change.

Or, check you have programmed the panel to use EOL and not Closed loops.

Thanks for the fast reply.

The sensors state they are suitable for Texecom, but I have to admit I don't understand the difference so it could be possible.

I've notified EOL wiring by turning on 'EOL tamper alarm on zone short' via programming command 03, 2. The other option is 03, 3 'EOL tamper alarm on zone open' ;however, when selected it brings on the red tamper light. So maybe a clue there?

As above, 4K7/2K2 are the values for the Texecom Premier range of panels. For some reason, the Excel uses 10K/22K resistors, so your built in resistors are not compatible. You'll either have to remove all resistor links in the detectors and fit the 10k/22K resistors supplied with the panel or wire them all double pole with a global tamper. I'd go for the first option myself as it gives you individual tamper indication. Also, as far as I know, there are no detectors on the market with the Excel's resistors built in.

Okay, thanks for that. At least the PCB is okay.

I'll set about making the changes on my days off and let you know how it goes.
Cheers,
Walt.

That's a bit of an high value Scott, what's their thinking behind that ?
You're right, it's not currently an in-built value.

But aren't they losing out to installers who want to use eol's in the range, and may choose another panel because of this ?

Well I suppose so, but realistically how long does it take to install resistors? Surely no quicker that changing jumpers?

If they supply resistors with the panels like most manufacturers do.

Just reporting back that the system is now up and running okay.
It was just as you both indicated. Perhaps for the benefit of DIY'ers the manual could include a comment on suitability of resistors.

Anyway no harm done. As mentioned above the resistors are easy to fit, though magnetic door contacts need a bit more patience. I did consider using EOL for the powered sensors and global tamper for the door contacts, but this isn't possible with the excel (ok for external devices such as speech dialler) - its one or the other.

Thanks once more for the expert advice.

Glad to see you're up and running. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, it's either resistors or conventional as far as tamper is concerned'
