Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out a wee bit...

I am needing to kennel my dogs, and I have a kennel and run being built for me. The only problem is, is that it won't be insulated. So, does anyone have any cost effective suggests to the best way to insulate it myself?

I am hoping that if I insulate it, I won't need to have any other forms of heat in there... I am not keen on the idea of having wires, heaters etc going in there, but I will if need be. I have got raised beds for them, vet bed and straw which will all help them keep warm.

Thanks guys :)

Seriously though, I had the same dilemma with my dogs but simply ensured there was a REALLY DEEP layer of hay (not straw) chucked in there for them; they make nests deep in the hay and don't seem to suffer even as they're short-haired gundogs. I ensure that each day I 'fluff-up' the hay with a fork. I've used this method for 25 years.

Hay is much 'softer' than straw so consider using it.

We had a greatdane and large kenal for her, which was made using 8mm ply, on a frame of 1*1, with 1inch 'closed cell' polystrene sheet, external clading of t&g.

Might have been overkill, but dad build it years ago, simple, worked.

Only other place Ive head of insuluated kennals is in in the Husky farm my girlfreind is currently working on, but that is 250km inside the artic circle in northen finland and at minus 35c they proberbly need it.
