I am about to fit a stovax studio 1 cassette(flush fit) wood burning stove .

what i would like to know is do you need to fit a liner for building regs ?

I know that it is considered safer but the house was built in 1966 with 7" ceramic liners . in my thinking these are a better option but the fire rep is trying to sell me the lining and fitment (so it complies with Heptas) for £750 (he won't sign off if i fit) on top of an £1800 fire his reasons are there is know way of stopping debris coming down the flue and falling on top of the fire .

Anyway if it has to be done so be it but would appreciate a second opinion
many thanks in advance.

If you want a second opinion, get a second opinion. A registered chimney sweep will sweep and issue a certificate if the chimney is OK to use.
Might be better if he just sweeps and doesn't do stove installs.

Expect to pay £50 - £80 for this service.

I had a liner fitted for a stovax by a Hetas team who did the stove install on the same job this year. What grade and length of liner are they installing for £750?

I'll dig out the quote (it was itemised) I had but I'm sure the liner supply and install wasn't anywhere near that.

thanks for replays all sorted found the regs online

Sweeps doing stove installs ???????????? what are you on about . i know the chimney is safe , just wanted to know if anyone knew the regs as was struggling to find them. thanks for the reply all the same !!!

I think you've misunderstood Deluks' post. The stovax studio 1 is a nice unit but unless you've got a really complex flueing arrangement £750 to line the chimney does seem very expensive.

hi i know the £750 is expensive thats why i was trying to find the regs to see if i could get out of it, as ceramic liners are fine and the chimney is in good condition. :D I'm a builder and I'm struggling to find someone to sign off retrospectively if i fit the fire/liner. i could do it myself for £259.

didt understand his bit about sweeps not fitting fires ???

anyway all sorted now

many thanks
