Had a shower pump for the last fifteen years which I replaced a year or so ago because it had given up the ghost but the pipework's the same as it's always been.

Recently when turning off any hot tap anywhere in the house the shower pump will cycle on for ooh as a guess less than half a second. Sort of about the same time as you can say brrrrr. Then it'll go off again. If we turn any hot tap off slowly it doesn't do it but if we turn the tap off as usual then brrrr off it goes.

Plumbing to the shower comes from an essex flange (??) on the top of the tank to feed to the 3bar shower pump. All piping's in 22 mm reducing to 15mm at the thermostatic valves.

So, anyone got any ideas as to what it can be or what I should do?

TIA and a Happy New Year to you all.

the back pressure is making the flow switch in the pump move move briefly making pump start. must be more sensitve than last pump, no easy fix. a direct hot tapping out of cylinder may help but easiest option is to fit a pull switch in bathroom to isolate pump power when not in use, it is a pain but no simple fix. is cold feed to cylinder open fully

Thanks for the reply Bab,. The problem only started recently though the pump's been in a year or two though I must admit I turned all the water off last month to change some washers and may not have turned the cold back on fully so that could be it? I'll check and let you know.

But thanks for the idea and reply, much appreciated.

You may have air trapped in the pump. With the power to the pump swicthed off
> Turn shower on / off quickly several times with the temperature set a hot and then repeat with the temperature set at cold.
> Run the shower with the pump switched off for 2 - 3 minutes

If there is air in the pump that gets pushed through the shower head it will make a whoosh noise.
